45th Annual Applefest

Johnny Appleseed

The Brooke County Applefest started in 1979 celebrating the history of the apple industry. Legend has it that in 1800, John Chapman (Johnny Appleseed) floated down the Ohio River from Pittsburgh to what is now known as Wellsburg, to plant trees in the area. The Grimes Golden was found growing on the Thomas Grimes farm 200 years ago. It is a favorite for eating, cooking, and making cider.

Proceeds from the Applefest are used to fund scholarships for community children.

PLEASE NOTE: A WELLSBURG CITY ORDINANCE PROHIBITS ALL PETS FROM THE ANNUAL APPLEFEST EVENT.
